11 people have been left injured after a UTair Cargo Antonov An-72TK-10, a UN transport plane veered off the runway while landing in Mali on Monday.

In an official statement from the United Nations, the transport plane had been carrying 6 crew members and 4 UN officials for MINUSMA (a UN peacekeeping mission in Mali).

11 Left Injured As UN Plane Crash-lands in Mali

Of the 11 people on board, 10 suffered minor injuries while one crew member was severely injured.

The plane which had departed from the Bamako Airport Mali was landing at the GAO Airport Mali when it suffered this fatal accident.

The plane had suffered a runway excursion while trying to make an emergency landing due to bad weather at the Gao airport.

All passengers on board the transport plane were immediately moved to the medical infrastructure of the International Forces of MINUSMA for treatment.

The UN plane itself suffered damage beyond repair following the crash.

While an investigation has been launched into the accident, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of MINUSMA Mahamat Saleh Annadif wished all those injured speedy recovery.
