Ed Sheeran Secretly Engaged For Months Before Going Public

Ed Sheeran was inundated with well wishes after announcing over the weekend he’d popped the question to girlfriend Cherry Seaborn before New Year. Fans of the chart-topper had been impressed he’d managed to keep such huge news a secret for so long, but it appears Ed might deserve even more praise for his undercover skills.

Footage has emerged of Russell Crowe appearing to announce Ed’s happy news back in May which would mean secretive Ed has been engaged for eight months. The official news had been announced by the Bloodstream singer on social media on Saturday alongside an adorable snap of the couple.

“Got myself a fiancé just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx,” he wrote. The loved-up pair are childhood pals, who both attended Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk, when they were younger.

In a recently resurfaced interview, another of Ed’s pals, Hollywood mega star Russell Crowe appears to make a slip-up by announcing he and Cherry have been engaged for some time. Speaking on Australian breakfast show Fitzy and Wippa back in May, Russell quite clearly refers to Cherry as Ed’s ‘fiancée.’ The bombshell came as the actor told the hosts how Ed was a regular visitor to his farm.

“He was on tour here and he was getting a bit burned out so he came up and stayed at the farm for a couple of days to get some sleep and then we became conversational mates,” he said. Adding: “He has subsequently gone back to the farm with his fiancée for more time.”

Ed had a crush on classmate Cherry but it was years before they got together as Cherry left high school and went to America to attend Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Ed recently revealed that his new love was working on Wall Street, the financial district of New York when they got together.

Speaking previously on BBC Radio 2, he shared: “I’m actually the happiest I’ve been and it’s because I had a year to spend with someone. I’ve always started relationships then gone off on tour. “I spent every day for a year with this certain person, we kind of have a strong relationship now which is good.

“I’m really secure now, we live together and we have cats, and I think when you have cats that’s kind of it.”
