The Twitter crash on Thursday night saw the creation of a new #EndSARS emoji once the app was up and running.
The Twitter crash brought about speculations that the Nigerian government had clamped down on the social media app in response to the #EndSARS online campaign.
However, it was made known that this crash was a global issue caused by a system change.
Twitter Support tweeted “most of you should be back to Tweeting. The outage was caused by a system change initiated earlier then planned, affecting most of our servers.”
“We’re working hard to bring Twitter back to normal and expect things to be fully resolved in 1-2 hours. We appreciate your patience.”
With Twitter back to normal, a noticeable change is that the #EndSARS hashtag now has an emoji, with the country’s green and white colours.
Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter had also endorsed the call to scrap the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) two days ago.
