FCMB appoints first female Managing Director

Yemisi Edun has been named managing director of First City Monument Bank Limited by the board of directors of FCMB Group Plc.

The announcement came after the departure of the bank’s former Managing Director, Adam Nuru, according to a statement released on Tuesday.

The bank stated that the board had already studied media claims made against the former managing director in late 2020 and found no evidence of a policy violation.

“The board of directors of FCMB expresses its gratitude to Mr Nuru for his years of dedicated service and wishes him well in his future endeavors,” according to the statement.

However, she was the executive director/chief financial officer of FCMB prior to her appointment, and she previously served as the acting managing director, according to FCMB.

She began her career in 1987 with Akintola Williams Deloitte (a member company of Delloite Touche Tohmatsu), focusing on corporate finance, bank auditing, and other financial officer roles.

Without a doubt, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife, and a master’s degree in International Accounting and Finance from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, according to the statement.

“She is a Certified Financial Analyst, CFA® Charter holder and a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.”

Summing up, she is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, the Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, the Information Systems Audit and Control Association of the United States of America, and a Certified Information Systems Auditor, according to the bank.
