The Ministry of Finance issued N10 billion (N10bn) on Monday to help the development of domestic vaccines to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.
The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, announced this during a briefing at the Presidential Task Force (PTF) COVID-19 in Abuja on Monday.
Ehanire speaking on the development of COVID-19 domestic vaccines said: “The Ministry of Finance has released N10 billion (N10bn) to support domestic vaccine production.”
“While we are working to develop our own vaccines, Nigeria is exploring options for licensed production, in collaboration with recognised institutions.”
“The country is also exploring the option of local production of the vaccines in the country.”
The health minister called on Nigerians to dismiss some individuals’ allegations that they had COVID-19 vaccines in the country for sale.
According to him, these statements are criminal because protocols for the procurement and use of vaccines require sufficient regulations and certification by the National Food and Drug Administration and Control Agency (NAFDAC).
