The Federal Government has provided relief materials in the Shira Local Government region of Bauchi to 578 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
This was made clear by Alhaji Basheer Mohammed, Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migration and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), at the presentation of the relief materials to the IDPs in the Shira Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Saturday.
Represented by Mr Abdullahi Kaoje, the North-East Zonal Coordinator, the donation was part of the federal government’s effort to assist those displaced by the actions of the state’s armed bandits and cattle rustlers.
As a result of the loss of their loved ones killed by armed bandits and cattle rustlers, Mohammed clarified that the donated items were intended to act as palliative steps to cushion the bad effects.
“We are giving these items to the families of those who lost their breadwinners and also empowering the IDPs to improve their socioeconomic status,” he said.
According to him, the beneficiaries are selected from the Federal Constituency of Shira/Giade.
Nigeria’s News Agency (NAN) records that food products, household utensils, farming machinery and empowerment equipment were included among the items donated by the committee.
Mats, cooking stoves, cooking oil, blankets, containers, mats, blankets, pasta, sewing machines, grinding machines, pans, rice, beans, palm oil, maize, and bowls of millet are all used.
Rep. Kani Abubakar (APC-Shira/Giade), also speaking, thanked the gesture committee.
The legislator, represented by Alhaji Mansur Faggo, urged the beneficiaries to use the products judiciously donated, pledging to continue to encourage further interventions for the citizens of the region from the federal government.
Malam Bala Adamu, responding on behalf of the other recipients, commended the action by the commission and the legislator, saying the gesture would bring them succour.
