British Prime Minister, Theresa May has said the various leaders at the G20 summit will seek to persuade US President Donald Trump, to rejoin the climate deal.
It can be recalled that President Trump withdrew the US from the Paris climate deal on the 1st of June this year.
President Trump’s decision was met with a lot of backlash from politicians such as former president Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
President Trump however said the deal was unfair to the United States and that he would “renegotiate” a fairer deal that would not disadvantage US businesses and workers.
The British prime minister had previously expressed her disappointment at President Trump’s decision but said she hopes to convince the President to rejoin.
Theresa May said “I believe the collective message that will be given to President Trump around this table will be the importance of America coming back into that agreement, and I hope we will be able to work to ensure that can happen.”
The British Prime Minister is due to meet Trump Friday for a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the summit.
