Lars Stindl’s first-half strike, which came as a mistake by Chile defender Marcelo Diaz, proved enough for Germany to win the confederations cup.

Copa America winners Chile wasted an array of goalscoring chances in either half.

The German team were also helped by a superb performance from goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who made numerous crucial saves.

Joachim Low’s side held on to win the tournament for the first time.
