The governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike without giving a reason has sacked all members of his cabinet, less than 48 hours after the State’s commissioner of information Austin Tam-George resigned.
His special assistant on electronic media to the Nigerian governor, Simeon Nwakaudu said in a statement:
“Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has dissolved the State Executive Council. The governor directed all former commissioners to hand over to their respective Permanent Secretaries,”
“Governor Wike thanked the former commissioners for their service to the state and wished them well in their future endeavours.”
Nwakaudu said the governor had directed all the former commissioners to hand over to permanent secretaries in their respective ministries.
In February and following the sack of one of his commissioners, Wike was quoted to have said that “I have a covenant with the people of Rivers state to develop this state. And anybody who is going to work with me must work at my speed and not at your own speed,” he had said while announcing the ex-commissioner’s sack.
“Nobody should come and drag me back like the former commissioner. Wachukwu is intelligent, but he could not meet up with the pace of work at the ministry.”
Five months after making that utterance, Wike suspended four commissioners, head of service and his special adviser on lands.
