Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has announced plans to establish a College of Engineering at the Benue State University, Makurdi.
Governor Samuel Ortom said this on Thursday at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi, when he received a report of the State Steering Committee on the Establishment of Centre for Infectious and Tropical Diseases, College of Health Sciences, Benue State University.
Ortom said that a committee would be constituted to fast-track the establishment of the College of Engineering at the institution.
Ortom directed the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Emmanuel Ikwulono, to present a memo to the State Executive Council on findings and recommendations of the report for immediate action.
He stressed that Benue, known as the Food Basket of the Nation, should also be its education hub, describing the engineering college as key to technology development.
He applauded the committee for the timely completion and presentation of the report despite the global pandemic, COVID-19.
The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Ikwulono, during the presentation, also disclosed that when established, the centre would be of immense value to the state’s health sector.
