Hong Kong falls and Shanghai stocks go higher

Hong Kong stocks fell Thursday, even as market heavyweight Tencent rose on surging profits, while Shanghai advanced ahead of results from Chinese e-commerce leviathan Alibaba.

The Hang Seng Index finished down 0.24 percent, or 64.85 points, at 27,344.22.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.68 percent, or 64.85 points, to 3,268.43, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, climbed 0.58 percent, or 10.99 points, to 1,909.38.
