Sahara Reporters’ editor, Omoyele Sowore, was bailed by the Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Abuja for the amount of N20m.
Four other activists, arrested on New Year’s Eve in Abuja with Sowore for holding a protest against bad governance, were also granted bail of N1m each.
For suspected illegal assembly, criminal conspiracy, and inciting public disorder, Sowore and Juwon Sanyaolu, Peter Williams, Emmanuel Bulus, and Damilare Adenola stand trial.

Chief Magistrate Mabel Segun-Bello admitted Sowore to bail in the amount of N20 million and two sureties in the same amount while ruling on the bail application on Monday.
The court also ordered Sowore to remain in Abuja and must physically report to the court registrar every Monday and Friday pending the hearing and determination of the case against him.
