Thirty cows are said to have died suddenly in Akungba Akoko, a university town in Ondo State’s Akoko Southwest local government district.
According to the cows’ owner, Ibrahim Saliu, also known as Baba Saliu, the incident happened late Monday night after everyone had gone to bed.
When Saliu saw the situation, he said he raised an alarm, causing fear in the group.
According to a community source, the cows may have been poisoned by unknown individuals who were envious of Ibrahim Saliu, the cows’ owner’s generosity.
In response to the report, Oba Sunday Ajimoh, the monarch of Akungba Akoko, vowed to investigate the cause of the cows’ deaths.
However, Oba Ajimoh cautioned against selling or buying such cows.
In addition, Alhaji Sule Arekemase, a retired environmental officer, warned consumers and butchers not to buy cow meat because of the health risks.
