A petrol tanker has exploded Wednesday morning in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State.

The accident had occurred along the Felele – Nataco axis of Abuja – Lokoja road.

The Lokoja accident had involved five cars, one tanker, three tricycles and two motorcycles.

Students of Kogi State Polytechnic and Primary School pupils were burned in the fire as well. A family of six was also burned to death in the crash.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed 23 casualties.

Eleven bodies have already been claimed by relatives, while the rest are in the Kogi State Specialist morgue.

The Kogi State Government has expressed sadness and commiserated with those who knew the victims.
