The Lagos state government had commenced plans to construct the fourth mainland bridge, when the Governor of the state Akinwunmi Ambode decided to terminate the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a consortium of firms to build the 4th Mainland Bridge.
The proposal to construct the bridge was brought to the fore on May 26, 2016 by the present administration when the MoU for the 36 km bridge was signed.
The Lagos State House of Assembly set up a six-man-committee to investigate the rationale behind the cancellation. The six-man committee chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Wasiu Sanni Eshinlokun, while the members were Majority Leader, Messers Sanai Agunbiade, Yinka Ogundimu, Moshood Oshun, Muyiwa Jimoh and Bisi Yusuf.
The committee invited the State Attorney General, Commissioner for Waterfront, Commissioner for Finance and the state Chairman of Lagos Global to clarify the termination of the contract and submit a report to the house.
One of the members of the committee said that the report has been given to the House as expected and it is now the responsibility of the House to do justice to the report.
