A Lithuanian court on Friday sentenced a Russian security official to 10 years in prison.
The Russian was sentenced to prison for spying after prosecutors accused him of attempting to bug the president’s home.
Judge Regina Pociene, said the Russian man, Nikolai Filipchenko, worked for the Russian federal security service (FSB).
The judge said the activities of the FSB spread outside of the Russian federation.
Filipchenko’s lawyer Galina Kardanovskaja said he “disagrees with the charges” but that it was “too early to say” if he would appeal the verdict.
The ruling further increases the tension between Lithuania and Moscow.
The relationship between both countries hit their lowest level in recent years over Russian intervention in Ukraine.
