A Chief Magistrate Court in Sokoto on Monday remanded one Aminu Hayatu-Tafida for raping a 16-year-old girl and circulating her nude video on the Internet.

Hayatu-Tafida, a son of popular politician and a political appointee in Sokoto State Government, had been arrested for sexually assaulting the victim and conspiring with three others to circulate the rape video.

He was arraigned with three others for trial on Monday before the court for allegedly sharing the nude video on social media platforms.

NAN listed the three accused persons as Umar Abubakar, Mas’ud Abubakar-Gidado and Aliyu Shehu Kangiwa.

The prosecuting officer, ASP Samuel Sule, while presenting the case said in court that all offences charged against them contravened the penal code law and laws of Sokoto state.

He further said that the victim’s mother reported that Hayatu-Tafida in 2017 had lured the 16-year-old girl to a hotel, had unlawful carnal knowledge of her and recorded her nudity in an 18 seconds video clip.

The prosecuting officer revealed that the unfortunate incident resulted in the termination of the girl’s wedding, scheduled to take place in October, this year.

While delivering judgement, Chief Magistrate, Shuaibu Ahmad, ordered that Hayatu-Tafida be remanded in Sokoto Correctional Center to allow the police to complete its investigation.

Ahmad granted the three accused persons bail in the sum of N500,000 each adding that their offences were bailable.

He then adjourned the case to Oct. 19 for hearing.
