Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria’s Vice President, will announce the 20th National Sports Festival, tagged Edo 2020, open on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.
This was revealed at a meeting of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) in Benin City by the Deputy Governor of Edo State, who also serves as the Chairman of the LOC.
After multiple postponements due to disturbances caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the sports fiesta will take place from April 2 to 14 in different venues across Benin City.
The Games Village will be open to athletes and officials on April 2, 2021, according to Shaibu, he said “The torch of unity will arrive in Edo State on April 3, and will go round the 18 local governments in the state. It will arrive at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium main bowl on April 6, where the governor will light it up.”
Four days before the festival begins, the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) will arrive in Benin City to ensure compliance with COVID-19 guidance.
“All the non-pharmaceutical measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 will be provided for by the state government at the various venues and camps,” Shaibu added.
