Former Head of State, retired Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, was feted on his 79th birthday by President Muhammadu Buhari, who was joined by family and friends to rejoice with the legendary leader.
Malam Garba Shehu, the president’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, issued a statement in Abuja on Sunday with the president’s congratulations.
Buhari said that Abubakar’s legacy of guiding the country toward democracy and good government, as well as his zealous pursuit of peace, has continued to bear fruit.
He wished the General a long and prosperous life, praising his patriotism and visionary leadership style of constantly supporting unity, projecting maturity and wisdom on national dialogue, and serving as a rallying point for the country’s future.
The president praised the former President for the continuous goodwill he had brought to the country on a national and international level.
He praised him in particular for devoting his time and resources to educating individuals and institutions about the importance of contributing to Nigeria’s prosperity.
