The Nigerian senate has given an ultimatum of one week to all agencies and corporations of the Federal Government of Nigeria who are yet to submit their 2017 budgets for passage.
The agencies are required by the Fiscal Responsibility Act2007, to submit their budgets to the National Assembly for approval which is independent of the national budget.
The agencies are the Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation and Nigeria Ports Authority.
The directive followed a motion by the Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan during plenary sessions.
Lawan said “Last year 2016, those proposals were submitted with annual appropriation. We need to have budget appropriations properly passed for those agencies and corporations.”
The senate added that all exercise for considerations should be done before the lawmakers embark on their annual recess.
