The Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) on Sunday confirmed that the number of COVID-19 cases in the continent had reached 1,707,741.
In a statement, the Africa CDC noted that the death toll related to the pandemic stood at 41,145 as of Sunday afternoon.
According to the Africa CDC, a total of 1,399,238 people infected with COVID-19 have recovered across the continent.

The most affected countries in Africa in terms of the number of positive COVID-19 cases include South Africa, Egypt, Morocco, Ethiopia and Nigeria.
On the other hand, the Southern African region stands as the most COVID-19 affected region in terms of the number of confirmed positive cases and the number of deaths.
