Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has warned against tribalism and tribal sentiments in choosing candidates for the 2023 presidential elections.
Governor Uzodinma said this while addressing state correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Uzodinma said that the 2023 presidential candidates for the elections should be chosen based on party systems rather than tribalism.
Uzodinma pointed out that Nigeria was practicing democracy and not tribal democracy.
“We are practicing partisan democracy, not tribal democracy. So, the emergence of presidential candidates will come on a party-by-party basis, not tribe-by-tribe basis,” he said.
Uzodinma’s comment comes after some Nigerians have made calls for a Southeast President in 2023.
