The United States in a statement on Tuesday demanded the peaceful conduct of Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State.
The mission urged stakeholders to make sure to work toward free, fair and transparent elections.
The United States reiterated its hope that participants in the democratic process, including the INEC, political parties, and the security services, will take concrete steps to ensure a peaceful election “that reflects the will of the people of Ondo”.
The United States also maintained that it remains committed to the U.S.-Nigeria partnership.
The statement further said America would continue to work with Nigeria to achieve mutual goals of peace and prosperity for the citizens of both countries.
The major candidates in the Ondo State election are Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (All Progressives Congress), Deputy Governor Ajayi Agboola (Zenith Labour Party), and Rotimi Jegede (People’s Democratic Party).
