As all is scheduled for her swearing-in on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will resign from the Senate today.
After becoming the first female, first black and first South Asian vice president of the US, Harris will formally leave the legislature, ending her four years as a legislator.
According to NDTV, her aides have stated that Harris has already begun her resignation process.
She is said to have told Governor Gavin Newsom of California’s moves to encourage him to nominate Democrat Alex Padilla.

On Monday, she will officially announce her resignation, but a floor speech will not be issued, aides reported.
In November 2016, Harris secured her seat and was sworn in in January 2017, becoming California’s first black woman to serve as a senator.
