Heart-wrenching ballad ‘See You Again’ has become the most-watched video on Youtube surpassing South Korean megahit, ‘Gangnam Psy’, which had held the top spot for five years.
The new record-breaker by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s “See You Again”, the original motion picture soundtrack of Furious 7 of the Fast & Furious franchise is said to have been streamed 2,895,373,709 times, beating “Gangnam Style’s” 2,894,426,475 views.
Gangnam Style’s popularity had initially forced YouTube to rewrite its code after the platform’s video-sharing platform’s play counter was unable to keep up because it had exceeded the maximum number of views possible – 2,147,483,647.
According to analysts, the new record-breaker has been streamed for a total of 21,759 years; “If one person was to listen to each of those streams consecutively, they would have to have started during the glacial peak of the last Ice Age.”
The video reached 1 billion views in six months, and hit 2 billion last September. However, its reign as YouTube’s most-watched clip may be short-lived as Luis Fonsi’s summer hit Despacito has racked up 2.5 billion views in just six months, and it shows no signs of slowing down.
